Learning in the flow of work


Our mission is to prevent child abuse by increasing the number, capabilities, and confidence of medical professionals who are able to recognize and respond to possible child abuse. We do that by providing best-of-class e-learning solutions in partnership with the most experienced and respected authors. Our eLearning modules are created to the high standards of Child Abuse Pediatricians, Forensic Nurses, Child Advocacy Centers, and other specialists in this field. Our users also include frontline providers such as medical professionals in the Emergency Department, Radiology, Family Practice, Pediatrics, and others who are in the best position to recognize children who may have been abused. As of this writing, we serve nearly 300 institutions and 4,000 learners worldwide.

We are instructional designers, publishers, software developers, and systems engineers, but at the end of the day, our goals are aligned with yours. We're here to help you serve this community. We do that by creating learning experiences that combine three learning strategies and three phases of learning in an approach that is both innovative and time-tested. 

Three learning strategies


  • Learning from experts - Developed by some of the most respected authors, educators, and clinicians in the field, our modules deliver a unique, evidence-based eLearning experience. 
  • Learning from experience - Our courses are case-driven, giving the learner insights into how the material can be applied in practice. We also offer access to important clinical resources that can be easily accessed in the course of clinical practice. Our courses are modular, making it a snap to review any relevant topic. Our tools help you engage in challenging experiences, reflect on outcomes, and set improvement goals.
  • Learn from peers - Challenging Cases and Case Reviews provide an opportunity to see how others evaluate cases. Your entitlements may include Challenging Cases, targeted cases delivered to your inbox. Challenging Cases present real-world scenarios that will challenge you to think critically about a case. Your institution may also share cases via Case Reviews. Case Reviews provide an excellent home for those unique teaching cases that every organization has. Case Reviews also provide an excellent mechanism for expert-led peer-group coaching.

Engaged Learning


We recognize the serious and sensitive nature of child abuse, and the incredibly high stakes for everyone involved. We respect the learner for taking on this responsibility. Because the material is so intrinsically valuable and the learner understands what’s at stake, we avoid “edutainment” in order to create a deep and meaningful learning experience. 

We are not just a “click-next” eLearning experience. Evidentia Learning is a complete development program that goes on well after awarding AMA or ANCC continuing education credits.

Our modules fit together offering an integrated and mutually reinforcing eLearning experience. The Physical Abuse Series, for instance, offers a Core Framework for the clinical management of child abuse, and a series of plug-ins that dive deeper into related topics such as Abusive Head Trauma, Fractures, or Cutaneous Injuries.

Our approach to learning favors structured thinking to the over-application of algorithms. Structured thinking uses critical thinking to apply a framework such as the Interpretation of Physical Findings table to an unstructured, or poorly structured problem like a complex or challenging child abuse case. One pattern that we regularly employ is “What do you see? What do you think? What should you do?”

We use low-stakes Formative Self-Assessments to help a learner assess her learning progress inline with the course material. These formative assessments are frequently built into the presentation of a micro-case or other interactive elements such as “Now you try it” opportunities.

Our learning modules are case-driven, an important feature of the second phase of learning.

Transfer to Practice


Real-world cases not only add interest to the material - they provide an opportunity to connect the course material to your clinical practice. 
In most eLearning, when a course is done it’s done. Our system is different. Challenging Cases provide frequent learning opportunities, interleaving the coursework with your practice. Challenging Cases are micro-learning experiences that put learning in the flow of work.

Upon course completion, you’ll also start getting access to additional cases and clinical tools that can be applied to your practice right away.
Our modules are focused and interconnected. They form a comprehensive system for learning. Because they are modular, you can easily fit them into your normal workflow. The layering of knowledge acquisition and knowledge application - going back to the learning module to review - is the most important thing you can do to ensure that what you’ve learned transfers to how you practice. 

If you are part of an institution, your institutional administrator may assign specific learning activities to you according to a specific schedule. These will likely be aligned with your clinical responsibilities. In the end, you and your administrator will determine your learning path.

Skills Mastery


Combing pre-assessments and post-assessments allows us to respond to prior knowledge while measuring improvement in demonstrable capabilities.
Case Reviews provide an opportunity to refresh your knowledge and improve your skills in an expert-led peer-group coaching environment. Whether your case is being reviewed or if you are commenting on another learner’s case, Case Reviews are an extremely effective way to improve your skills.
Our tests provide in-depth feedback and remediation on a question-by-question basis.
