Dr. McCann served as the Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and the Medical Director of the Child Protection Center at the University of California, Davis Medical Center located in Sacramento, California. He has been dealing with issues of child abuse for more than 25 years and his research has helped to set the standards for the medical evaluation of children suspected of having been sexually abused. This research has included studies of children selected for non-abuse, longitudinal evaluation of the healing process of children injured as the result of a sexual assault, and the use of the multimethod examination technique in the identification of the physical changes that have resulted from this form of child abuse. Widely regarded nationally and internationally as an expert diagnostician in the field, he has conducted or supervised medical evaluations of over 10,000 child sexual abuse victims.
