James L Lukefahr, M.D.

Dr. Lukefahr joined the UTHSCSA Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics in June 2007. He is the medical director of the Center for Miracles, which is the child abuse medical evaluation facility at the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. Dr. Lukefahr also serves as the Medical Director for the Forensic Nurse Examiner program at the Children’s Alliance of South Texas (CAST) in Floresville.
Dr. Lukefahr was elected to the Helfer Society in 2002. He was among the first group of pediatricians to become board-certified in Child Abuse Pediatrics (January 2010). He is a former committee member and past committee chair of the American Board of Pediatrics, and recently completed 6 years of service on the Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Lukefahr was the 2010-2011 president of the Texas Pediatric Society (the Texas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics) and has received the Society’s Kaliski Award of Merit and the Daeschner Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2020 Jim was awarded the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award at UT Health San Antonio and was inducted into the UT Health San Antonio Gold Humanism Honor Society.
